Transitioning… (Between Realms)

Due to the complexity of creating a place for the former citizens of Tales, the world they now inhabit is split into two: Reve Songe (which we will often call “the Modern World”) and The Kingdom of Nod (also known OOC as the Fairy Tale World.) Plots not withstanding, time in the role play will be split somewhat equally between the two.

Normally, that time will be 2-3 weeks, and will be indicated via notice (and Event Schedule) when the change will occur or when it has occurred.

What occurs IC (and is likely beyond your character’s knowledge unless they received that information from someone Officially In The Know) is that a bell (in Nod) or a strike of the municipal clock (in Reve Songe), will begin to ring. It will ring 12 twelve times, and then, it will strike one more time (the 13th ring) and as soon as that strike begins, every person in Reve Songe will disappear and awaken in Nod.

Things to note:

  • In Reve Songe, you do not remember the happenings in Nod.

  • In Nod, the untrained mind will remember Reve Songe like one does a dream. Foggy and disjointed, often with details missing.

  • The transition can be brief, or one can be asleep for several hours, maybe even days before waking. (To ease the burden of RL interfering with your fun, and to explain why some people aren't where they are supposed to be.)

  • When you arrive in one world or the other, you wake up right where you were before leaving, doing the same thing you were doing. Oddly enough, time doesn’t seem to move forward during these times, nor does food spoil etc. It is recommended that you create a landmark where you left, so you can go right back to it. This all means that you cannot escape jail or die during a complicated surgery, so on and so forth.

  • The experience of waking up in the other realm, is like blinking and being disoriented a moment before your brain catches up with the situation. The character will still wear the clothing he was wearing before (Reve Songe clothes in Reve Songe, Nod clothes in Nod) and be holding any objects he might have had before. There are exceptions, but wait until you hear from your Chaotic Neutral Storyteller.

  • In Reve Songe, you are always human. And don’t forget, the more aware you seem of Nod, the more you speak on it or *TRY* to use special abilities, the more likely you will be visited by The Silence.

  • There is a place on sim to TP between Reve Songe and Nod, but should only be used OOC at this time.

  • Some characters may develop an inkling of what is happening, but should consult with a storyteller via the ticket system to be sure. All characters who “know” will be kept track of by the STs.

At times, the switch will be triggered by something IC, and will happen without warning, perhaps even interrupting scenes currently in session.

When the transition happens, you have two choices: to address hearing the bell in your next post IC and then after everyone posts, go where you would have arrived in the other realm, to freeze time OOC for a bit so you can finish the scene happening THEN be pulled into the other realm. (Another scene should not be started, and should anyone leave the immediate area of the ongoing scene, they automatically go to the other realm.) Everyone in the scene must agree to one or the other OOC, with a brief bubble emote ((Go)) or ((Finish)). If an agreement cannot be made, the default will be one last round, then transitioning to the other realm. (This is the Storyteller’s Preference.) In a ST run scene, the Storyteller will inform you whether or not you are being affected by the switch.
